I asked him if he had heard of Piper, the king of Ankh, and whether he deemed her worthy of such a title if she were operating in inner-society. He chuckled to himself and confessed that he didn't hold any scathing opinions of her, implying a profound adoration from the way he talked about her. He mentioned meeting or at least hearing about most kings, some of whom did indeed greatly annoy him. Specifically, he expressed irritation towards the lawless king of The Landfill in Wastey Wastes, who continuously intrudes on his territory to steal husks. Supposedly, though this peculiar behavior kept Outer Ring clean of dead bodies it equally contaminated the area with radiation, making some monsters sick.
I inquired about the others. He mentioned my own supposed lawless king, back in Paradise, whom Warhammer referred to as Tigerlily. He also brought up someone named Morrigan, cautioning us to steer clear of large crows. He briefly touched on the others—a fire-breathing behemoth in Hoarder’s Pyre—and admitted he knew next to nothing about who was controlling Dread Tides.
He was kind enough to explain false kings more in-depth to me, clarifying that they are monsters that are too large and occupy too much space both in wild districts and inner society. They are expected to challenge lawless kings to take their place. I learned that false kings are socially exiled until they can prove themselves, a phase he referred to as their "inescapable trial." Most obviously fail against Warhammer, succumbing to their injuries or fleeing to the next region of their choice to try again with the next king, but their choices seem limited and dire.
