Ep 68. Frustration

1/24/25

Brandy, Minty, and Sugarcube walk through the frozen Center Ring. Brandy is holding their daughter in his arms while she sleeps. Minty walks past a frozen assimilated object. The frozen assimilated object's wing twitches, making a sound that scares Minty. Text says buzz.
Back in their apartment, Brandy kneels by the back of their couch and says to Sugarcube, We'll make our own tent. With a blanket and rods. Sugarcube asks, When do we leave? Brandy says, Soon. Minty chimes in, Really soon, honey!
Brandy glares in Minty's direction. Sugarcube says, But you guys keep saying that! Minty walks towards her holding a knit beanie with a pom pom on top. He says, We've just been really unlucky, Sugar. While Minty puts the hat on Sugarcube's head, she asks him, But why's it so cold outside? Minty's ear flicks. Text says flick. He says in response, Uh, Because it's winter. You'll be fine, you have Brandy's genes.
Sugarcube says, But dad doesn't have jeans. Minty says, I meant, You've got his DNA, silly. All three of your parents can stick it out in the cold. Later, in Sugarcube's bedroom, Brandy is tucking her into her bed. He says to her, Come get me if you need anything. Don't yell for me. There are chalk drawings of assimilated objects and Citrus on the wall. There is also a poster that says Magic Kiwi, as well as some normal children's drawings.
Sugarcube asks, Why? Brandy says, It's very important. People can't know we're here, so. He pats her covers, text says pat pat. There are more chalk drawings of assimilated objects in the background. Brandy says, keep being brave for me, sweetie. Get up and find me if you need anything. Even if it's scary. Brandy hugs Sugarcube.
Sugarcube says, Okay, dad. Brandy says, Goodnight, Sugarcube. He smiles and says, I love you. Sugarcube says, I love you too.
In the living room, Minty talks to Brandy from inside the laundry basket. Minty asks, Are we gonna talk about that paranormal freaky shit that happened at the Radio Wave? Brandy hesitates before asking, Aren't you cold? Minty if silent for a moment, then asks, What do you care? Brandy snaps, stop with the attitude. Minty asks him, Or what? You gonna break my other hand?
Brandy taps his eye injury with his finger and says, I guess we're even now. Text says tap tap. Minty shouts, What? That is not the same thing! The eye was an accident. Brandy asks him, Was the cheating an accident? Minty says, Hey. I saved your fucking life back there. Minty's tail starts lashing.
Minty starts climbing out of the laundry basket while asking, What is your fucking problem lately? Minty points at Brandy, saying, Yeah, that's right. I saved your ass. Got nothing to say, big guy? Minty says in a mocking voice, Maybe you should thank me for it!
Text describes the sound of Brandy's fist slamming into Minty's face. Blood and spit flies from Minty's mouth. Minty rotates on his heel on the carpeted floor, creating the sound of friction. He then falls over with a fwump, as Brandy looms over him with a balled and shaking fist. Some of Minty's blood is present on Brandy's knuckles and face, running down the fracture on his glass. Brandy's pupil is constricted and the veins in his eye look strange, but familiar.
